Emeriti status is considered for those faculty members and administrative officers who are members of the voting faculty (including members ex-officio) of the University. Individuals seeking emeriti status must be in good standing with the institution and receive the recommendation of their departments to the Provost at the time of their retirement from the University. The title of Professor Emeritus/Emerita is honorary and without obligation to the recipient. In addition to the right to use the title, the recipient is encouraged to continue to participate in the academic activities of the University. The recipient also receives a standing invitation to participate in formal academic processions including Convocations. Any faculty member on disability retirement may be considered by his or her department faculty for designation as emeriti faculty.
Emeriti faculty have contributed to the well-being of the University. In order to continue and facilitate this involvement, departmental chairs and deans should endeavor to provide office, laboratory or studio space for emeriti faculty. This should be decided on a space-available basis, with priority given to non-retired faculty. Emeriti faculty shall also be entitled to full computer privileges, letters of introduction, institutional identification and other non-financial privileges enjoyed by non-retired faculty, in order to enable them to conduct research and scholarly activity.
